Announcement From Curran

Beloved Community,

I am working with our Mayor, Logan Harvey, on a task force designed to make certain that everyone in our valley is fed. Starting next week, we will be mobilizing additional free grocery distribution throughout the valley. The goal of this supplemental food support is to be of help to ANYONE and EVERYONE who might find that this pandemic has stressed them financially. The hope is that people will be able to reserve some of what they might normally spend on groceries and be able to apply those resources to other essentials such as rent and utilities.

A list of all available food resources will be ready soon. In the meanwhile, Redwood Empire Food Bank, https://refb.org/ is the best resource for the location of free groceries. At the very top of the Redwood Food Bank home page is a “GET FOOD” button. Type your address for a list of distribution sites and times. Additionally, if you are a senior citizen and need extra support, consider signing up for their program called “Senior Baskets”  which offers food delivered to your door, along with additional amenities.

You are welcome to make financial contributions directly through the Redwood Food Bank site as the need for food services will increase exponentially in the next few weeks. So too will the need to finance the extra food being provided. Soon I will also provide you with a direct link to donate to the Sonoma Valley Food Security Fund as well as a link to sign up if you are able to offer volunteer hours. We are looking to create volunteer opportunities with as little exposure risks as possible.

If you or someone you know needs a friendly person to talk to they should know about the Friendship Line provided by the Institute on Aging. The line operates as both a warmline and a crisis hotline. Providing routine phone calls in order to provide support, reassurance, well-being checks, and information and referral for additional care. Call toll free at 800-971-0016. 😊

The FCCS leadership team is also working on a phone tree so that everyone can feel connected to someone in our church community. And as always, don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally if there is something I can do for you. I am hoping to set up some online office hours next week for people to call in as they wish.

Be safe and be well ~ Curran
