The Forum committee is a lay ministry of First Congregational Church of Sonoma. Community Forums organized by the Forum. Community Forums originated on the theme “Gain a Wider World View”. They are focused on gaining insight in and understanding of spirituality and social justice. The Forum theme for 2014 was mass incarceration and the failed ‘war on drugs’. A variety of speakers came to FCC Sonoma and shared insights on the position of eliminating the death penalty. A book study session was held using Michelle Alexander’s book “Mass incarceration in the age of colorblindness”.

The Forum events have a history of presenting a diverse group of speakers over the years to share from their new books or on issues of the day.

Our group sponsors Forums throughout the year. These events are open to the public with a request of a small donation. Proceeds go to support the events. A few dedicated church volunteers meet and make plans to bring dynamic and diverse speakers, workshops, and sometimes a conversation café to our church. Speakers such as Deepak Chopra, Karen Armstrong, Sylvia Boorstein, Matthew Fox and Sam Keen have been guest speakers through the efforts of Forum.
