SERVING OTHERS AND SEEKING JUSTICE

The Social Action Ministry expresses its Christian concerns for the community and the world. Our primary focus is on immigration, housing, and education. We accomplish this through signing petitions, calling our representatives, and joining in marches for social justice.

We offer physical and financial support to the following organizations:

 - Sonoma Overnight Shelter

 - North Bay Organizing Project

 - El Verano School

We also promote the following United Church of Christ Special Mission Offerings:

 - One Great Hour of Sharing

 - Neighbors in Need

 - Christmas Fund

 - Strengthen the Church

In addition, we support our Church Ladies and Gents for Queer Rights through participation in the Pride Parade held in San Francisco each year. Click here to learn more...

You Read To Me, I’ll Read To You

  • Many believe in the transformative power of reading aloud with children. The pleasure of sharing an exciting text with others improves listening skills, increases vocabulary, and builds confidence. For several years, FCC and community volunteers have been sharing their time and talent with first and second-grade students of El Verano School. Thank you to this year’s dedicated team of Dotty Abbott, Kit Conforti, Sara Donnelly, Adrienne Fiske, Kathy Jewell, and Cathy Webber.
  • Cathy shared, “ I thoroughly enjoyed spending time on Monday afternoons with the children of El Verano School. I worked with 3 children at different times. Each one was engaging, creative and adorable. Sometimes they read to me, other times we read to each other. And sometimes they just wanted to talk. I will miss seeing their faces this summer.”
  • From Sara, “ It has been a delight to go to El Verano School each week and meet with my student. Her enthusiasm and humor are growing in leaps and bounds, as is her reading confidence. I always come away with my spirits lifted!”
  • Adrienne wrote, “This is one volunteer job I’ve really loved. It’s such fun to see the kids run into the library with their books and right away start to read.”
  • Kit and her student formed  a special bond, saying, “He was great fun to  read with, he laughed at all the jokes in our stories, and we had a happy time!”

Gold stars for them all!

MANY THANKS TO THE READING ANGELS FROM FCC AND THE COMMUNITY.
