WORSHIP

Our worship service is a mix of traditional and progressive elements. We welcome everyone.

Our theology is progressive Christian, with many variations. Some members are more traditional, some are oriented more to spirituality than to Christianity. Buddhism and meditation and contemplation are common influences. Our minister calls us the church of joy and justice. We offer two services every Sunday, plus additional services several times a month.

FCC Sonoma is alive and well!

Sundays at 8:30 am, 10:30 am (Post COVID-19)

Our early service starts at 8:30 a.m. via Zoom and runs about an hour. It is informal, often with a reading or a brief message followed by discussion, prayer and sometimes quiet time.

Our main service starts at 10:30 a.m., in person, and is also an hour long. It is more traditional, with hymns, prayers, a sermon and usually either our singing choir or our hand bell choir. In summer and scattered throughout the year, our music may include guitar, harp, flute, solos and small groups, as well as piano and organ. The music itself may be traditional hymns, gospel, African, Latin American, classical, Taize and more — we draw on many traditions. There is a time for “spirit sightings” — joys and inspirations — and a time for prayer requests. We offer communion the first Sunday of the month. During the 10:30 a.m. service, children start in the main service, then are dismissed for Godly Play, which is an interactive Sunday school period.
